Over the course of a relationship, your mind keeps a record of what experiences/actions bring the most happiness. What can happen when people get attached to that level of happiness is that they stop living in the moment and start re-enacting the actions they have on their list of “Things that bring happiness”, ignoring what’s actually the best thing to do in their current situation. It’s a pattern based in fear – the fear of losing the supposed source of happiness (the relationship and experiences previously experienced).
